If you find yourself without an eyelash perm kit at home, there are ways to create a permed eyelashes look without the kit.
Keep in mind that the methods described below can be used to give your eyelashes a natural permed look but they are not meant to replace the results you would get from an eyelash perm kit. This is because eyelash perm kits use chemicals to alter your hair structures in order to create and keep your eyelashes curled.
Here are 4 ways you can perm your eyelashes without a kit:
Use Heated Curler + Transparent Mascara Gel
The idea here is to curl your lashes with a heated eyelash curler and then hold the curl in place with a transparent mascara gel. You would want to use a clear mascara gel here because you can preserve the color of your lashes, giving your lashes a natural permed look without the heavy mascara.
To do this method, follow these steps:
Step 1: Heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer and curl your lashes. Don’t overheat it as it will burn your lashes. If you’re not sure, touch with your fingertips. Your curler should be warm to the touch and not so hot that you feel pain in your fingers.
Step 2: Apply a waterproof transparent mascara gel to your lashes. Apply a thin layer at first and let it dry. Observe the look and apply more if needed. Don’t overdo this step because too much gel will actually make your lashes look too glossy.
If you want to try this method, I recommend trying the Etude House Dr. Mascara Fixer. This is a waterproof transparent mascara gel that does a great job of holding the curls in your lashes after you’ve curled them. It contains black bean extract which helps to nourish your lashes. This gel also helps to provide your lashes with more volume. If you choose to use mascara, you can use the gel over the mascara to prevent it from smudging.
Lift Your Eyelashes Naturally with the “Pulse Curler Technique”
This method does not require any gel or mascara but it does require you to be skillful with your curler. The idea here is to curl your eyelashes at the root, middle, and ends separately. This allows your eyelashes to have a more natural curl. Even if one of the parts loses its curl, the other parts can still hold your lashes up, making the overall curl last longer.
To do this method, follow these steps:
Step 1: Heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer. Position the curler at the root of your lashes and bend up slightly. Hold in place for 1 second and let go.
Step 2: Your curler may have cooled slightly at this point. Apply a bit of heat with the blow dryer to your curler. Position the curler in the middle part of the lashes and bend up slightly. Hold in place for 1 second and let go.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 for your eyelash ends.
You needed to bend the curler up slightly for all 3 steps because this method doesn’t require you to use any products here to hold your lashes in place. Bending your eyelashes up slightly makes your curls last longer. The result are beautiful and lasting lashes with a natural permed look.

Use Heated Curler + Wiggle Your Mascara
This method allows you to add a bit of color to your lashes while also making it hold its curl. You want to wiggle your mascara in because this helps to spread your lashes, de-clump any hair strands while minimizing the amount of product you apply, therefore giving you that natural permed lash look.
To do this method, follow these steps:
Step 1: Heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer and curl your lashes.
Step 2: Wiggle a waterproof mascara into your lashes. Use a gentle side to side motion while you work from the roots to the tips of your lashes. Ensure to use only a thin layer of mascara on your wand.
Step 3: Observe the look and add more mascara if required.
The idea here is to use just enough mascara to hold the curls in your lashes without looking heavy. The result are beautiful lashes that look natural and permed.
DIY Lash Lift with Vaseline
The thick jelly texture of Vaseline makes it an ideal choice for lifting lashes. This method works great if you want to preserve your natural lash color and don’t have clear mascara gel available.
To lift your lashes with Vaseline, follow these steps:
Step 1: Using a spoolie, swoop out some Vaseline from the jar and apply it on the back of your hand.
Step 2: Use your fingers to gently rub on the Vaseline. The heat from the back of your hand and your fingers will help to de-clump the Vaseline and make the texture less sticky. It also makes it easier to apply.
Step 3: Dab the Vaseline with your spoolie. Ensure that all sides of the spoolie is covered with Vaseline
Step 4: Using the spoolie, apply the Vaseline to your eyelashes. Apply to the front, back and ends of your lashes. This step helps to ensure you have Vaseline on all eyelash strands, which will make it easier to lift.
Step 5: Lift your lashes by running the spoolie on your front lashes. Start from the roots and work your way up to the ends. Use an upward spinning motion to ensure each strand of your eyelashes is lifted.
Step 6: Hold your lashes in place with an eyelash curler for 10 -15 secs. If your lashes get clumped up by the curler, simply run your spoolie gently over them (from root to tip) to separate the strands.
For this method, If you’ve applied enough Vaseline, your lashes should hold in their “lifted” position. If you will be going out, be sure to bring a small bottle of Vaseline with you in case you need touch-ups throughout the day.
