How to Fix Frizzy French Braids
An easy way to fix frizzy French braids is to apply a mixture of tea tree oil, grapeseed oil, and Jamaican black castor oil to your braids the night before. Below are the steps you should take to fix your frizzed-out French braids.
You’ll need:
- Tea tree oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Jamaican black castor oil
- A cup
What You Need to Do:
Step 1 – Mix a few drops of each oil into a cup. The exact amount you’ll need varies depending on how much hair you have, but it doesn’t take much. It’s important to make sure that you’re using equal amounts of each oil, so it helps to measure them out precisely. I recommend starting with at least a teaspoon of each oil and increase the amount as needed.
Step 2 – After braiding your hair, apply the oil mixture with a blotting motion. Focus on getting the oils into the spaces between the braids, along your hairline, and anywhere that your scalp is exposed. This allows the oils to nourish not only your hair and keep it firmly locked in place but also rejuvenate and moisturize the skin.
Step 3 – Get in bed and wake up the next morning with healthy and tidy French braids!
How to Fix Frizzy Cornrows
To fix frizzy cornrows, you will need to overhaul your cornrows and apply a gel or pomade while you’re forming the braids. This helps the product get in-between the braids, hold down your hair, and prevent frizz from forming.
You’ll need:
- Gel or pomade
What You Need to Do:
Step 1 – Make sure that you’re parting and sectioning your hair correctly. This prevents stray hairs that can’t decide which braid they’re supposed to be in. Pay attention to the natural parts in your hair and follow them as a guide. Take your time and carefully inspect each part before committing to a braid to ensure that it’s even and properly positioned.
Step 2 – Apply the gel or pomade to each cornrow as you form it. Thoroughly rub one ounce at a time into the hair to ensure even distribution. Make sure to get the product deep into the cornrow for a lasting hold. When applied correctly, this method will hold split ends and flyaway hairs in place for the entire day.
How to Fix Frizzy Box Braids
An easy way to fix frizzy box braids is to drape a warm towel over your braids. The heat and moisture from the towel remove frizz and refreshes your box braids. This technique requires zero chemicals or haircare products.
All you’ll need is:
- Water
- A large pot
- A towel
- A stove
- Tongs
You’ll need to use a towel that can both fit in the pot while fully submerged and also fully cover your hair when draped over your head.
What You Need to Do:
Step 1 – Fill the pot up with four quarts of water. Heat the water on the stove at medium-high heat until it comes to an even, rolling boil. Reduce heat to medium.
Step 2 – Dip the towel into the water. Carefully use tongs to remove the towel and allow it to cool to the point where it’s still warm but not going to burn you.
Step 3 – Drape the wet towel over your braids and allow it to sit there for several minutes, or until the towel starts to lose its heat. Once you’ve removed the towel and allowed your hair to dry, you’ll find your braids freshened and de-frizzed, tamped down by the water.
You can repeat these steps as necessary to further de-frizz your box braids. It’s important not to rush through it, though, as there’s a serious risk of burning your hands or scalp if you use the water while it’s still too hot.
How to Fix Frizzy Wavy Hair
Wavy hair frizz can be cured by modifying your shower routine. You won’t need anything new to complete this method besides a hairdryer and the products that you already use.
What You Need to Do:
Step 1 – Turn down the water temperature when you shower. Excessive heat causes hair cuticles to rise, which is the hairs’ protective outer layer. When the cuticles are raised, the inner hair shafts become more susceptible to damage and dryness.
Step 2 – Take care of detangling while you’re still in the shower. This will prevent split ends from forming by trying to brush through the tangles with dry hair.
Step 3 – Apply your preferred haircare products immediately after getting out of the shower. I recommend choosing a hair products that contain Argan Oil, Vitamin E or Aloe Vera. Argan oil helps to rejuvenate damaged hair. Vitamin E helps to repair damaged hair follicles and aloe vera helps to leave your hair smooth and shiny. Wavy hair tends to frizz out at the first sign of moisture in the air. If you wait until it’s too late, it will be much more difficult to make the frizz go away.
Step 4 – Use a hairdryer only on medium to low heat settings. Keep it moving the entire time to prevent hotspots from forming. Ensure that your hair is dried thoroughly.
Step 5 – Be consistent with your hair care practice. Eliminating frizz isn’t always possible to do overnight. Repeat the above steps every time you shower and over time, your hair will have more waves and less frizz.
